Comments on "Item 11: Behind vehicles in a left turn lane"

The thing about this one is, it's common in Chicago (or Illinois) to pull into the intersection. But in some places (Texas is one) it's not at all common. So maybe you're just in back of someone who didn't learn to drive where it's usual practice.

Drove me crazy in Texas, that's for sure, until I learned that most people who learned to drive there didn't learn that as an option. It may even have been illegal, and in any case, they have tons of intersections where oncoming traffic has a longer green light (or shorter, depending on which way you're going) so all you'll get if you pull out when the light changes is a car crash.

It is the people who creep into the intersection that end up running red lights or causing gridlock. You should be able to look far enough ahead to anticipate the opening and make a safe turn without needing to enter the intersection. What if the light turns yellow before a hole opens?...I assume you are one of those that still turns during or after the change to red. My biggest pet-peeve is red light runners who make the lane with the green light wait for them to finish their illegal turn etc. I won't even go into the legalities of your "pet-peeve."
