We actually started the day by picking-up my mom and taking her to Diane & Melinda's for lunch. Of course, it was for a Jack visit, too. Diane made some beef stew that was actually very good. Melinda made a cake that looked great, tasted fabulous. Something happened along the way, and it was the densest cake we've had - like the yellow cake turned into pound cake and the frosting turned into this wonderful almost fudge-like consistency. Too bad it was so damn heavy, because it tasted fabulous.
We left early to go to B&B's for the annual Oscar party with the usual suspects. The difference this year is that we sort of laid-off the food. It seems like we've always made too much food for this event. This year, it was pizza and some snacks and it actually worked-out well. I was really surprised at that. Maybe I didn't care because of the food we had at Diane & Melinda's.
We watched the preshow on E! and were underwhelmed by the coverage. It felt that we didn't see everyone on the red carpet. Turns out we didn't, because as we watched the ABC preshow, we saw people that didn't stop by Mr., Mizrahi (were they avoiding him, maybe? or was the director at E! just stupid enough to not even shoot these people from a distance, instead of showing us the same damn people over and over and over).
We felt the show was great. Jon Stewart did a WONDERFUL job and really looked comfortable throughout the show. Extremely happy Clooney got an award, shocked but happy the Crash got Best Picture.
Even more shocked that the show moved quickly and ended at a time that actually seemed EARLY compared to prior years. And why the hell do they have to play music throughout every speech? Maybe I wouldn't mind it as much if it wasn't as hot as it was - it needed to be under a little bit more compared to the speaker's volume.
The show is STILL TOO STUFFY. I want something more Golden Globe-y. Maybe they need to go back to the dinner party atmosphere of decades ago.
